WWI dog fights......a DVA first....NOW EXTENTED to 3 Saturdays

12:00 pmLRN (Lorraine, France) and SAR (Saarbrucken, Germany)

It has been a hundred years since WWI ended. I thought it would be a great opportunity for our DVA pilots to get a feel of what it would be like to experience flying a WWI aircraft. As you soon will learn it is very different from modern aircraft's and quite a challenge to fly. Trying to enter a dog fight with one of these aircraft's has now become a deadly challenge. We will try to create the scene of 1917 on the border between France and Germany and bring some of these old birds into a battle.

    SCANDINAVIA....Lands of the Midnight Sun

    12:00 pmEKRK (Roskilde, Denmark)

Our Scandinavia Tour starts at Copenhagen's secondary airport Roskilde. Most of our group flights will be flown out of smaller airports, just as they are done with regional airlines in the real world. However there will be a couple of challenges on the way to keep your Weight & Balance department honest. I am talking about short runways and big aircraft's. But for now we will board our twin turbo's and head Northeast.

    12:00 pmESSB (Bromma, Stockholm, Sweden)

Here is an airport not often visited, except for regional airlines. This is Stockholm's original airport close to downtown. Finding a location for a large airport was difficult due to the terrain, and the newer Arlanda had to be located far from downtown. However it is connected to downtown with a high speed rail that will bring you to the City in 20 minutes at 120 mph.

    12:00 pmVNKB Kamal Bazar, Nepal

We are at our halfway point to reach Barrow in North Alaska. The DVA Management requires one yearly training class in Mountain Flying. We ask that all participating Group Flight members sign up for these classes. This will be a fun and educating event filled with many challenges during this break from our scheduled Group Flights. The Nepal Government will supply us with STOL aircraft's. You must download the scenery posted below. Read the install carefully as you need to copy and paste the BGL's. We will not use VAFS for these flights as the airports are not in the VAFS database. This mean NO landing rate pressure. Just a ton of fun.

    12:00 pmPAKT (Ketchikan, Alaska)

We leave our jet behind and continue north in a small prop to Skagway. So much history here from the gold rush day when thousand of people descended on this town to find gold in them there hills. people would rush up the steep valley to reach Klondyke. Many found gold but only a handful brought it back to the other States to invest it. By the time the railroad up the mountain was complete, the gold rush was over.

We continue our trek east to the City of Omsk.

As of 2008, Omsk Oblast is the 23rd largest economy in Russia, with a gross regional product of 10.2 billion dollars.

The economy of Omsk Oblast is heavily industrial, with well developed, and growing, service and financial sectors. Agriculture represents a smaller, but still significant, portion of the economy.

Economic activity is concentrated in Omsk, with over sixty-six thousand private enterprises registered, ranging from small-scale retailers to billion-dollar manufacturing.[10]

Omsk was ranked by Forbes as the 6th-best city in Russia for business in 2008, an improvement over its 20th-place ranking the previous year.[11]

The oblast and city governments have made efforts to improve the business climate and foster small enterprise through various incentives and government programs designed to ease the bureaucratic red-tape, a notorious feature of Russian business life, and to generate cooperation within the business community.[12]

The bulk of industrial output, as of 2009, is concentrated in food and tobacco processing ($900 million), hydrocarbon processing ($6.7 billion), chemical manufacturing ($500 m), plastics manufacturing ($200 m) and the manufacture of electrical components ($280 m). The remainder of the economy is dominated by the retail sector and agriculture.

The largest industrial enterprises include the aerospace manufacturer Polyot, the Omsk Aggregate Plant, the agricultural manufacturer Sibzavod, Omsk Baranov Motorworks, and Omsktransmash, which manufactures the T-80 main battle tank. Additionally, Omsk Rubber, the Technical Hydrocarbon Plant, Omsk-Polymer and Omsk Hydrocarbon Processing Plant, represent the petroleum and hydrocarbon industry. Omsk Hydrocarbon is one of the most important oil refineries in Russia.[13]

The oblast operates four thermal power plants, which makes it largely self-sufficient from the standpoint of energy generation.

Agricultural production is concentrated in the Isil'rul'skii District and produces wheat, barley, flax, sunflower, potato, various fruits and vegetables as well as meat, poultry and dairy products.

The food processing sector includes several breweries, a distillery and numerous food packaging enterprises.

Yes, you guessed it. We continue our journey east to Krasnoyarsk. (Try to say that fast after two Belgian Trappist Ales and a shot of Stolichnya).

The total area of the city, including suburbs and the river, is 348 square kilometers (134 sq mi).[7]

The Yenisei River flows from west to east through the city. Due to the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric dam 32 kilometers (20 mi) upstream, the Yenisei never freezes in winter and never[citation needed] exceeds +14 °C (57 °F) in summer through the city. Near the city center, its elevation is 136 meters (446 ft) above sea level. There are several islands in the river, the largest of which are Tatyshev and Otdyha Isles, used mainly for recreation.

To the south and west, Krasnoyarsk is surrounded by forested mountains averaging 410 meters (1,350 ft) in height above river level. The most prominent of them are Nikolayevskaya Sopka (notable for its ski jumping tracks), Karaulnaya Gora, and Chornaya Sopka, the latter being an extinct volcano.[17] The gigantic rock cliffs of the Stolby Nature Reserve rise from the mountains of the southern bank of the Yenisei, the western hills form the Gremyachaya Griva crest extending westwards up to the Sobakina River, the north is generally plain, except for the Drokinskaya Sopka hill, with forests to the northwest and agricultural fields to the north and east.

The major rivers in and near Krasnoyarsk are the Yenisei, Mana, Bazaikha, and Kacha Rivers, the latter flowing throughout the historical center of the city. Due to the nature of the terrain, a few natural lakes exist in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk.

The forests close to the city are mostly pine and birch; further afield, aspen becomes dominant in many areas. The moss-covered fir and Siberian pine replaces other wood in the mountains westward of the Karaulnaya River, in about 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) to the west from the city, the forests to the south are mostly pine, fir and aspen.[18]

We are getting closer to our goal to reach Vladivostok but must make a stop in Blagoveschensk.
Blagoveshchensk (Russian: Благовещенск, IPA: [bləgɐˈvʲeɕːɪnsk], lit. the city of the Annunciation) is a city and the administrative center of Amur Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Amur and Zeya Rivers, opposite to the Chinese city of Heihe. Population: 214,390 (2010 Census);[9] 219,221 (2002 Census);[15] 205,553 (1989 Census).[16]

The Amur has formed Russia's border with China since the 1858 Aigun Treaty and 1860 Treaty of Peking. The area north of the Amur belonged to the Manchu Qing dynasty by the Treaty of Nerchinsk of 1689, until it was ceded to Russia by Aigun Treaty in 1858.

Again practice your NDB approach skills at this airport.
