This island is only 17 miles long and 9 miles wide and has a population of just over 400,000. Everyone has ruled here. The Phoenicians,Carthaginians,Romans, Byzantines and Arabs. Napoleon occupied Malta in 1798. The British took control later and Malta finally became independent in 1964.

This leg will be interesting. The runway is long, so is the flight and you will probably prefer large equipment which is fine. Here is the catch, it's a gravel rwy. Extreme caution should be taken during landing to reduce damage to underbelly and engines. We want landing rates here to be under -100 fm preferably -50 or less. So plan for this one please and good luck.

So now we have to leave this long gravel runway. The key to success is to get your nose wheel off the ground as soon as possible. Then lift the aircraft off the ground and level off while you pick up speed. As you reach V2 then climb. (An old trick I learned from my friend Captain Stephen Bennett) This will reduce the damage from the shaking encountered on gravel. This leg is not that long so reduce your fuel load to the minimum.

    PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE

To celebrate our 10th Anniversary ( Delta Virtual Airlines was founded on August 3rd, 2007 by Tyler Newport) we will go down memory lane and re live some of the fun events and competitions we have had over the last 10 years. The first one will take us from San Francisco down to Orange County and John Wayne Airport.

    Initial event April 11, 2009

Many years ago I was on the phone with my late friend Captain Stephen Bennett of Delta Airlines when he suddenly said " hey, by the way I am now a member of the Mid Field Club"......after a few seconds I replied" I have no clue of what you are talking about"

    He explained:

When arriving into KSNA (Santa Ana, Orange CO) and you are able to make a full stop and exit taxiway H you are qualified for a membership to the "Midfield Club" This being an old Tower "thing" and they keep track of who has made it.

Let's see if we can do it. No touchdown before the 600' marker allowed.
